Author, composer and performer, he renewed the genre from the late 1930s with a style blending poetry, fantasy and jazz-inspired rhythms. Songs such as La Mer, Boum ! and Y'a d'la joie became classics of the French repertoire. These photographs, dating from the 1960s and 1970s, show the artist in different contexts - in town and in his dressing room - reflecting the singer's daily and professional life at a time when his career remained very active. They form part of the press iconography devoted to this major figure in French chanson.
