Dimensions: 13 x 18 cm & 21.2 x 29.7 cm Some corners corroded Note: Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993), a Russian-born dancer and choreographer, is one of the major ballet figures of the XXᵉ century. Trained at the Vaganova Academy in Leningrad and a soloist with the Kirov, he left his mark on dance history through his virtuosity and dramatic intensity. In 1961, while on tour in Paris, he requested political asylum at Le Bourget airport, becoming one of the most famous defectors from the Cold War. Once settled in the West, Nureyev embarked on an exceptional international career, notably with London's Royal Ballet alongside Margot Fonteyn, then as director of dance at the Paris Opéra in the 1980s. These photographs, one of which shows him with the artistic director of Les Ballets du Marquis de Cuevas, testify to the period when he established himself as a central figure in the Western choreographic world.
