MICHEL LEIRIS, writer, poet, critic... 1966 - Lot 167
MICHEL LEIRIS, writer, poet, critic... 1966 Photo by Daniel Faunières Vintage silver print Annotated (including photographer's name) on the back Dimensions: 23.3 x 16 cm Slight folds and restoration of a visible tear Note: Michel Leiris (1901-1990), French writer, poet and ethnologist, was one of the leading figures in the intellectual life of the XXᵉ century. Close to the Surrealist movement in the 1920s before distancing himself from it, he simultaneously pursued a career as an ethnologist at the Musée de l'Homme and took part in the Dakar-Djibouti ethnographic mission (1931-1933). His literary work, notably the autobiographical cycle La Règle du jeu, occupies a singular place in French literature for its exploration of the intimate and the writing of the self. This photograph, taken in 1966 by Daniel Faunières, is part of the press iconography devoted to the writer and his intellectual activity.
