From the 1930s onwards, he took part in several expeditions to Greenland, where he also carried out ethnographic work among the Inuit populations. After the Second World War, in 1947 he founded the Expéditions Polaires Françaises (EPF), which organized numerous scientific missions in the Arctic and Antarctic. Through his work as an explorer and popularizer, Paul-Émile Victor made a major contribution to public awareness of the polar regions and the scientific issues involved in exploring them. These photographs, dating from the 1940s-1950s, bear witness to the notoriety acquired by the explorer during this period.
