Note: Portrait of Anatole France (1844-1924), French writer and academician, a major figure in the literature of the late XIXᵉ and early XXᵉ centuries. Author of an abundant body of work combining novels, criticism and philosophical reflection, he is best known for Le Crime de Sylvestre Bonnard (1881), Thaïs (1890) and Les Dieux ont soif (1912).
