TRANSATLANTIC PAQUEBOTS, SS Ile-de-France, SS Cuba, SS Guade - Lot 208
TRANSATLANTIC PAQUEBOTS, SS Ile-de-France, SS Cuba, SS Guadeloupe... 1920s/30s 7 photos, vintage silver prints (mostly on cartoline paper) Text in the image at some borders and annotated on all spines Dimensions: From 14.2 x 9 cm to 6.5 x 10.7 cm Note: A set of photographs depicting several transatlantic liners from the 1920s-1930s, including the SS Île-de-France, as well as the SS Cuba and SS Guadeloupe. These ships illustrate the rise of the great shipping lines linking Europe to the Americas during the interwar period, when liners embodied technical progress, the prestige of shipping companies and the development of international passenger transport. The SS Île-de-France, commissioned in 1927 by Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, was one of the most emblematic liners of her era, famous for her Art Deco decor and her role on the Le Havre-New York line. These photographs are part of the production of documentary and press images devoted to the great transatlantic ships, widely distributed in the illustrated publications of the period.
