ORLY AIRPORT - ARCHITECT H. VICARIOT, construction of the Or - Lot 213
ORLY AIRPORT - ARCHITECT H. VICARIOT, construction of the Orly-Sud terminal with three images of H. Vicariot, 1950s 27 photos, vintage silver prints Mute backs Dimensions: from 11.5 x 9.5 cm to 21.8 x 28.2 cm. Note: This set of photographs documents the construction of the Orly-Sud terminal in the 1950s, with the presence in several images of architect Henri Vicariot (1910-2002), who was involved in the design of this major airport project. Inaugurated in 1961, the Orly-Sud terminal was one of Europe's most modern facilities, symbolizing the boom in commercial air transport during the "Trente Glorieuses". Designed according to functional, modern architectural principles, the building is distinguished by its large glass façades and vast panoramic terraces, which allow the public to observe the planes and runways. These photographs provide a documentary record of the different phases of construction and of post-war French airport architecture, at a time when civil aviation was expanding rapidly and becoming a symbol of modernity and technical progress.
