PAQUEBOT "France", blocking the Port of Le Havre, 1974 - Lot 216
PAQUEBOT "France", blocking the Port of Le Havre, 1974 2 photos by Jean Graumy, vintage silver prints Captioned and stamped by the photographer on the back Dimensions: 20 x 30 cm each. Note: Photographs relating to the blockage of the liner France in the port of Le Havre in 1974. Commissioned in 1962 for Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, the France was one of the world's largest and most prestigious liners, a symbol of French maritime expertise. In 1974, faced with the crisis in transatlantic shipping and the rise of air transport, the company decommissioned the ship. This decision provoked a labor movement by sailors, who blocked the liner in the port of Le Havre to protest against the end of her operation. These photographs by Jean Graumy bear witness to this significant episode in French maritime history, and to the mobilization of crews around the fate of the famous liner.
