EMILE AILLAUD, the architect commissioned to design Les Hall - Lot 219
EMILE AILLAUD, the architect commissioned to design Les Halles in Paris, 1973-1975 2 photos, vintage silver prints Captioned (dated label) on one back Annotated on the second and stamped on both Dimensions: 23.8 x 18 cm & 20 x 30 cm Slight folds Note: Émile Aillaud (1902-1988), French architect and urban planner, is best known for his housing projects of singular shapes and colors, including Espaces d'Abraxas in Noisy-le-Grand and Grande Borne in Grigny. His work is characterized by a plastic approach to architecture and a particular attention to the urban environment and the perception of its inhabitants. These photographs, dated 1973-1975, relate to the period when the architect was appointed to participate in the reflections on the development of the "trou des Halles" in Paris, a vast worksite opened after the demolition of the old Baltard pavilions and destined to transform the center of the capital. They bear witness to an important moment in the history of Parisian urban planning in the 1970s.
