FASHION AND RACES AT LONGCHAMP, Chantilly, 1920s/30s - Lot 223
FASHION AND RACES AT LONGCHAMP, Chantilly, 1920s/30s 10 photos, vintage silver prints Some captioned (with dates) and Rol or Manuel stamped on all backs (except one). Dimensions: approx. 18 x 13 cm each. nOTE / Set of photographs devoted to horse racing and fashion at the major Parisian racecourses, notably Longchamp and Chantilly, dating from the 1920s and 1930s. The images show the social atmosphere that surrounded these sporting events, where horse racing, elegant dress and social life all came together. At the time, the great race meetings were major social events, attracting aristocracy, personalities from the artistic world and the elegant public, while the grandstands and lawns also became places of expression for women's and men's fashion. The shots bear the stamps of the Rol or Manuel agencies, Parisian photographic studios renowned for their production of press and reportage photography during the first half of the XXᵉ century. These images thus bear witness to the encounter between sport, society and elegance in interwar France.
