STATUES AND MONUMENTS - ARGENTINA. Works created by French a - Lot 274
STATUES AND MONUMENTS - ARGENTINA. Works created by French artists in Buenos-Aires (Argentina), some by Rodin, Bourdelle, Guillaume... 1930s. 23 photos, vintage silver prints, stamped and annotated on almost all spines (except one). Dimensions: from 17 x 11.5 cm to 23 x 17.5 cm. Note: Set of photographs depicting statues and public monuments in Buenos Aires (Argentina) by French sculptors, including Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle and Guillaume. At the turn of the XXᵉ century and during the interwar period, Buenos Aires commissioned numerous works from European artists, particularly French, to adorn its squares and parks. This cultural policy contributed to making the Argentine capital one of Latin America's richest cities for monumental sculptures of European inspiration. These photographs, dating from the 1930s, bear witness to the presence and reception of French sculpture in Argentine public spaces, and to the role of press and documentation photography in the dissemination of these artistic achievements.
