José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 136

José NICOLAS (1956) Silver beach, Porquerolles, 2015 Silver print Image size: 36 x 36 cm Dimensions with passe partout : 50 x 50 cm Note: In this photograph taken in Porquerolles, José Nicolas continues his sensitive exploration of the Mediterranean landscape, here introducing a discreet but decisive human presence. His work, which often straddles the border between documentary and fine art, aims to reveal suspended moments where nature and intimacy come together. The composition is organized around the graphic lines of the pine trees, whose twisted silhouettes structure the image and guide the eye towards the shore. The contrast between the bare branches and the softness of the sea creates a balance between tension and calm. Below, the embracing couple introduces a narrative, almost cinematographic dimension, anchoring the scene in a sensitive, contemporary reality. The choice of black and white reinforces this timeless atmosphere, while the bird's-eye view and the depth of the landscape open up the image, blending the monumentality of the site with the fragility of the moment.
