Aldo SOARES (1960) - Lot 151

Aldo SOARES (1960) Havana, Cuba, 1996 Silver print Signed, located, dated on back Dimensions including margins: 23 x 18 cm Note: This photograph captures a moment of collective spontaneity, where bodies come together in a play of poses, glances and smiles. The heterogeneity of expressions - defiance, amusement, reserve - composes a scene both joyful and fragile, shot through with an acute awareness of the camera. The decrepit wall in the background acts as a silent counterpoint to this childlike vitality: it inscribes the image in a social and historical reality, without ever weighing it down. Soares doesn't just document a Cuban childhood; he captures a form of everyday theater, where identity is already constructed in the eyes of others.
