José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 204
José NICOLAS (1956) Mujahideen at prayer, Wardak, Afghanistan, 1984 Lambda print Dimensions: 40 x 50 cm Note: In this photograph taken in Afghanistan, José Nicolas isolates a figure at prayer in a bare space, where the bare wall accentuates the subject's solitude. The few objects placed around him introduce a tension between everyday life and the context of conflict. The minimalist composition and balance of mass reinforce the silent force of the scene. The image reveals a moment of intimacy and contemplation in the midst of an environment marked by instability.
