Brigitte Bardot in "Bonnie and Clyde", circa 1968 - Lot 12
Brigitte Bardot in "Bonnie and Clyde", circa 1968
Digital color print
Dimensions: 30.7 x 20.4 cm
Note : Portrait showing Brigitte Bardot in an aesthetic inspired by the "Bonnie & Clyde" universe, corresponding to the period of her artistic collaboration with Serge Gainsbourg around the song Bonnie and Clyde.
Note: Rare image showing Brigitte Bardot in an ultimately unsuccessful role in the film Bonnie and Clyde (1967), directed by Arthur Penn. Bardot had been considered for the project before the female lead went to Faye Dunaway. Today, these images from screen tests, costumes and promotional sessions are alternative iconographic documents, much sought-after by collectors.
The photograph shows Bardot in a 1930s aesthetic, directly inspired by the world of the film: patterned dress, beret, heavy make-up and melancholy posture, in a setting evoking Depression-era America. The image perfectly illustrates Bardot's ability to embody cinematic archetypes beyond her official filmography.
This print is of major historical and cinematographic interest, because of its link with one of the most emblematic films of the New Hollywood era, and because of the singular place it occupies for Brigitte Bardot, an international figure who would never appear on screen.
