Irène JONAS (1957) - Lot 167
Irène JONAS (1957) Untitled, from the Cilka (Exile) series. Moscow, c. 2000. Silver print, color-enhanced by the artist On the back, signed and numbered 1 copy. Dimensions including margins: 30 x 45 cm Note: In this image from the Cilka (Exile) series, Irène Jonas isolates a solitary figure facing the expanse of water and sky, in a posture that evokes expectation, fatigue and drifting. Seen from the back, the body becomes a fragile, almost anonymous presence, inscribed in a vast, silent landscape. Discreet but sensitive highlights of color introduce a melancholy tone, like a memory surfacing on the surface of the image. Between wandering, a suspended childhood and an uncertain horizon, this photograph suggests a state of exile that is as much internal as geographical.
