Michel GINIES (1952) - Lot 178
Michel GINIES (1952) The banks of the Seine 1998 Silver print Image size: 30 x 40 cm Dimensions with passe partout : 40 x 50 cm Note: In this view of the quays of the Seine, Michel Giniès captures a misty atmosphere in which the city seems to gradually fade away. The plunging perspective, guided by the line of the quay, draws the eye towards the arches of the bridge, which barely emerge in the diffused light. Human presence, reduced to a solitary silhouette, accentuates the sense of isolation and slowness. The contrast between the dark cobblestones and the moving surface of the water creates a discreet tension, while the uniform sky envelops the whole in a soft, melancholy tone. Here, Giniès follows a tradition of poetic urban photography, in which Paris becomes an inner landscape. He favors the silent moment, revealing an intimate city, almost suspended outside time.
