Pierre BOULAT (1924 - 1998) - Lot 195
Pierre BOULAT (1924 - 1998) Noces Berrichonne Berry, 1945 Silver print On back, signed, titled, dated Dimensions: 40 x 50 cm Note: This photograph by Pierre Boulat captures a moment of popular celebration with raw spontaneity. We see a wedding scene where bodies are close together, relaxed, almost abandoned to joy. Faces are marked, smeared or made-up, and laughter erupts without restraint. The tight framing and use of black and white accentuate the intimate, direct character of the scene. Boulat captures a simple, almost irreverent moment in life, where conviviality and excess bear witness to a vibrant rural culture, far removed from idealized images of marriage. Photography becomes a human testimony, at once tender and a little wild.
