Richard MISRACH (1949) - Lot 234
Richard MISRACH (1949)
Soumion (with stars), Greece 1979
Color silver print, 1983
Signed, titled and dated by the artist
Dimensions including margins: 35.5 x 27.5 cm
Note: The image shows the ancient columns of the Temple of Poseidon at dusk. The light from the flash illuminates the white stone from the front, while the background plunges into a gradation of colors ranging from violet to orange-red. This contrast between artificial light and natural landscape creates an unreal, almost suspended atmosphere.
Misrach, a major figure in contemporary American photography, is interested in landscapes and their symbolic dimension. Here, he confronts ancient relics with the modern gaze, transforming a historical site into an almost abstract scene, where time seems frozen between past and present.
