Cours Veissière, passage Théière, 11th arrondissement, Paris - Lot 243
Cours Veissière, passage Théière, 11th arrondissement, Paris, in the style of Eugène Atget, c. 1920
Vintage silver print
Size with mat: 40 x 50 cm
Note: This view of the Passage de la Théière, in the 11ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, clearly belongs to the documentary aesthetic of the early XXᵉ century, close to that of Eugène Atget. The photograph captures a modest, almost landlocked urban space, destined for the transformations of Parisian modernization.
The frontal composition, the depth of the passage and the slightly veiled light give the image a silent, timeless atmosphere. The damp cobblestones, worn facades and accumulation of objects in the center of the courtyard bear witness to a working-class Paris, far removed from the grand perspectives of Haussmann.
This vintage print is both documentary and aesthetic, preserving the memory of an urban fabric that has largely disappeared.
