Matthieu CHAZAL (1974 - 2024) - Lot 323

Matthieu CHAZAL (1974 - 2024) Adjanie region, Georgia, 2018 Silver print Signed, titled, dated and located on the back Dimensions: 18 x 24 cm Note: In this image, Matthieu Chazal captures a bathing scene in Georgia with great proximity, almost immersive. The framing, taken from the immediate background of two children in tightly-woven braids, introduces a play of glances and shots that guides the eye towards the group of bathers in the background. This in-depth construction creates a tension between the intimate and the collective. The contrast between the bodies in the water, free and moving, and the more restrained presence of the children in the foreground suggests a silent, almost initiatory observation. The rock, the waterfall and the dark surface contribute to a dense atmosphere, where naturalness dominates and envelops the figures. Here, Chazal develops a sensitive documentary style, attentive to ordinary gestures and human interactions, in line with her work on territories and communities, between distance and involvement.
