Frederic NOY (1965) - Lot 330
Frederic NOY (1965) Seaside Der El Salam, Tanzania, 2000 Silver print Titled, dated and signed in the margin Dimensions including margins: 40 x 50 cm Note: Frédéric Noy is developing a committed documentary style of photography, often focusing on East Africa, where he captures fragments of daily life with great sensitivity to movement and light. His work, akin to reportage, is less concerned with effect than with capturing a moment in time. In this image, the scene is constructed with great graphic simplicity: black silhouettes, horizon line, slender palm trees. The contrast of the silver print accentuates the cut-out effect, transforming the characters into almost abstract figures. The jogger and the passer-by, separated in space, suggest two rhythms, two trajectories in the same landscape. The composition plays on the balance between immobility and movement, the verticality of the trees and the horizontality of the sea. The whole gives off a calm, almost meditative atmosphere, where everyday life becomes a universal scene.
