José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 341
José NICOLAS (1956) Wardak, Zormat plain, Afghanistan, 1984 Lambda color print On back, signed, titled, numbered 1/8 Dimensions: 40 x 50 cm Note : Photograph taken in Afghanistan in 1984, on the Zormat plain (Wardak). José Nicolas captures a silent scene in which a man, seen from behind, carries a rifle on his shoulder against a mountainous landscape. The composition contrasts the proximity of the weapon with the immensity of the scenery, creating a tension between everyday life and conflict. Color, rare in his work, softens the scene while reinforcing the contrast between the beauty of the landscape and the reality of war.
