GENE TIERNEY - Lot 107
GENE TIERNEY Ballerina... on the set of Delmer Daves' film "Never Let Me Go", 1953. Photo, vintage silver print, annotated on back. 25.6 x 20.5 cm including white edges. One white edge manipulated. Note: A very elegant portrait of Gene Tierney as a ballerina, an atypical image given the actress' filmography, which is more associated with dramatic roles and film noir. This photograph, with its particularly meticulous composition, plays on an aesthetic of grace and lightness, with stage costume, choreographic posture and soft lighting highlighting the actress's delicate features. Although less famous than Tierney's other titles, Never Let Me Go is nonetheless a significant production in 1950s American cinema. Photographs from this type of production are of increasing interest, especially when they feature strong or unusual iconography, as here. The vintage print, with annotations on the back, guarantees its authenticity and promotional or press use. Despite slight handling at the edges, the set remains beautifully presented and particularly appealing to collectors of glamorous Hollywood portraits.
