MODERNIST CONSOLE IN WOOD AND GLASS - Lot 176
MODERNIST CONSOLE IN WOOD AND GLASS Solid molded wood console table, resting on two lateral legs sculpted in the shape of inverted scrolls. Architectural structure with curved lines, highlighting careful, balanced woodwork. Rectangular top in thick transparent glass, resting on supports integrated into the structure. French or European work, circa 1930-1950, in a late Art Deco / Modernism spirit. Condition: wear, marks and wood patina consistent with the period; glass top in apparent good condition. 144 x 65 x 51 cm Note: This modernist console table in wood and glass illustrates the aesthetics of the 1930s-1950s, a period during which furniture evolved towards purer forms while retaining a strong decorative research in the lines. The structure, composed of two lateral legs sculpted into large inverted scrolls, still evokes the Art Deco spirit, while the sobriety of the composition and the use of glass herald a more modernist sensibility. The contrast between the warm mass of the wood and the transparency of the glass top creates an elegant balance, highlighting the quality of the joinery and the precision of the assembly. The architectural, almost sculptural construction gives the piece a strong decorative presence, while retaining a light, open function characteristic of furniture from this period. Made around 1930-1950, this console testifies to the transition between late Art Deco and Modernism, where the search for curved, dynamic lines is combined with a desire for simplified volumes. Its condition, with patina and marks of age, is in keeping with its age.
