We would like to thank Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work.
Note: With Danseuse dans sa loge, Jean-Gabriel Domergue unfurls the universe for which he is renowned. In the intimacy of the backstage area, a young dancer adjusts her hairstyle while a dresser busies herself in the background. The nude, treated with delicacy and spontaneity, escapes all academic solemnity to become a celebration of feminine grace. Light brushstrokes, blended contours and a palette of warm, pearly tones lend the scene an atmosphere of softness and seduction characteristic of the artist.
A key figure in twentieth-century French socialite painting, Jean-Gabriel Domergue established himself as the painter par excellence of Parisian elegance. His work, populated by refined women, dancers and prolonged Belle Époque beauties, is still very popular with collectors today. This composition brings together several emblematic themes from his repertoire: spectacle, backstage, femininity and light. Authenticated by the artist's specialist Noé Willer, this oil on canvas represents a particularly attractive opportunity to acquire a representative work by a painter whose timeless charm continues to seduce the art market.
