Note: Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006)** is one of the major figures of XXᵉ century sculpture. Trained as an engineer as much as a sculptor, he revolutionized the art of the multiple by creating dismantlable works in which each element participates in a complex, perfectly mastered construction. His famous "puzzle sculptures" won him international recognition from the 1960s onwards.
Created in 1966-1967, **Romeo e Giulietta (Opus 101)** is one of the emblematic models of this period. Made of gilded brass and composed of sixteen removable elements, this sculpture illustrates Berrocal's fascination with the interplay of assemblage, hidden volumes and multiplicity of forms. Issued in a limited edition of 2,000, it also marks a milestone in the use of industrial production techniques applied to contemporary sculpture.
