Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) - Lot 221
Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) Portrait of Michele, 1969 Nickel-plated zamak, can be disassembled into 17 parts Signed on the base at the top Edition of 10,000 11 x 7 x 5 cm Bibliography: Jean-Louis Ferrier, Berrocal, Éditions de la Différence, 1989, one example reproduced on p. 159. Note: Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) left his mark on the history of contemporary sculpture with his dismountable works, veritable technical feats where engineering meets artistic creation. His large-scale multiples have helped to make his work widely known to collectors around the world. Created in 1969, Portrait de Michele bears witness to this singular quest. Composed of seventeen perfectly adjusted nickel-plated zamak elements, this portrait-sculpture reveals, once dismantled, all the complexity of its conception. Behind the apparent simplicity of the forms lies a subtle play of assembly characteristic of Berrocal's plastic language, making each manipulation a rediscovery of the work.
