Bernard MONIÉ (XX-XXI) - Lot 75
Bernard MONIÉ (XX-XXI) Crash Mixed media on paper mounted on cardboard Plastic film that can be lifted, held in place with scotch tape, displaying the writing "Crash". Signed lower left 47 x 29 cm Tears on cardboard Note: In Crash, Bernard Monié deploys the explosive imagination of the graphic culture of the 1970s-1980s, nourished by comics, action movie posters and hard-hitting advertising visuals. The almost chaotic dynamism of the scene highlights the narrative power of the image: dislocated cars, flying fragments, bodies swept up in the wave of the blast. The superimposition of the plastic film bearing the title, a mobile and deliberately visible element, further accentuates the spectacular effect, like a nod to the processes used for pre-models of movie posters. Monié uses the mixed media technique with freedom and efficiency, combining illustrative precision and gestural energy. The signed work testifies to his ability to capture the instant of impact, that suspended moment when everything is turned upside down, and to give it an almost cinematic dimension. Despite the tears in the cardboard, the whole retains an intact visual force, true to the artist's flamboyant aesthetic.
