ETIENNE MARTIN (1913 -1995) - Lot 127
ETIENNE MARTIN (1913 -1995) The little duck, 1953 Bronze with shaded golden patina Signed and numbered 10/250 30 x 47x 20 cm Note: Emblematic of Étienne Martin's poetic bestiary, Le petit canard (The Little Duck) bears witness to the organic, sensitive research carried out by the sculptor in the 1950s. Created in bronze with a nuanced golden patina, this sculpture combines stylized forms and the almost totemic presence of the animal, in a plastic language characteristic of the artist. Étienne Martin, a major figure in French sculpture of the XXᵉ century and a member of the Sanzistes group and later close to the Nouvelle École de Paris, developed a singular body of work in which memory, interior architecture and natural forms take center stage. His animal sculptures from the 1950s remain particularly sought-after on the art market.
