Jean-Louis BAREUX (20th century) - Lot 86
Jean-Louis BAREUX (20th century) LOUIS ARAGON, the poet in profile, 1970s. Vintage silver gelatin print Photographer’s stamp and annotated on the back Dimensions: 18 x 24 cm Very slight wear Note: Louis Aragon (1897–1982), a French poet, novelist, and essayist, was one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. A co-founder of Surrealism alongside André Breton in the 1920s, he went on to develop a substantial literary body of work blending poetry, fiction, and political activism. Author notably of the novel cycle *Le Monde réel* and numerous poetry collections, he left a profound mark on postwar French poetry. Several of his texts, set to music by performers such as Léo Ferré and Jean Ferrat, helped spread his work widely. This photograph, taken in the 1970s by Jean-Louis Bareux, presents a profile portrait of the poet—an image characteristic of the iconography dedicated to Aragon at the end of his life, when he was recognized as one of the leading figures of contemporary French literature.
