WILLY MAYWALD - FASHION I - Lot 16
WILLY MAYWALD - FASHION I
Early fashion photographs taken in the photographer’s studio in Paris (a hat by milliner Gérard Albouy worn by his sister), 1938.
Photograph, vintage silver gelatin print mounted on cardstock, with Maywald’s autograph (in pencil) beneath the image.
25 x 20 cm (photograph); 42 x 31.7 cm (cardstock).
Signs of handling on the cardboard (stain at the bottom on one side).
Note: Here, Willy Maywald creates one of his earliest works dedicated to fashion, before going on to become one of the leading photographers of Parisian haute couture. Taken as early as 1938 in his studio, this portrait of Gérard Albouy wearing a hat already foreshadows the refined elegance that would come to characterize his work.
