GOLD EAGLE AND SNAKE BRACELET - Lot 130
GOLD EAGLE AND SNAKE BRACELET Rigid "snake and eagle" clasp bracelet in yellow gold (750‰), openwork and chased, partially adorned with turquoise-blue enamel, featuring an interlaced motif, set with red stones, rose-cut diamonds, and a cabochon opal (shows signs of impact and wear). Safety clasp. French craftsmanship, 19th century. Traces of restoration. Length: 16.5 cm. Inner diameter: approx. 5.7 x 5.1 cm. Gross weight: 28.9 g. Note: A spectacular bracelet featuring an animal motif combining an eagle and a serpent, whose intertwined bodies create a particularly dynamic movement. The richness of the goldsmith’s work—chiseling, engraving, and turquoise-blue enamel with floral motifs—is enhanced by rubies, old-cut diamonds, and an opal. The iconography, naturalistic rendering, and polychromy evoke the historicist jewelry of the second half of the 19th century, while here maintaining the caution of an attribution “in the style of the 19th century and the Belle Époque.” Condition: cracked opal and damage to the enamel.
