Paul-Émile PISSARRO (1884–1972) - Lot 317
Paul-Émile PISSARRO (1884–1972)
Olivier’s Farm
Oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled and countersigned on the back.
46 x 55 cm
Note: The fifth and youngest son of Camille Pissarro, Paul-Émile Pissarro grew up in an environment deeply influenced by Impressionism. Encouraged by his father and later mentored by his godfather Claude Monet, he developed a personal style focused primarily on rural landscapes.
Settling in Clécy, in the “Swiss Normandy” region, in the 1930s, he found his primary subjects in the farms, meadows, and waterways of Normandy. In *La Ferme à Olivet*, the artist brings the composition to life with thick, vigorous brushstrokes and bold color contrasts. The buildings with their light-colored walls, the autumnal vegetation, and their reflections in the water combine to create a luminous and peaceful vision of the countryside.
