Jean FAUTRIER (1898–1964) - Lot 332
Jean FAUTRIER (1898–1964) Dark Landscape Etching and aquatint Signed in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered II/XXV Bibliography: Engelberts 1941/17, Mason 67 14.8 x 18.2 cm Note: A major figure in Informel art, Jean Fautrier (1898–1964) gradually turned the landscape into a field of experimentation where representation tended toward abstraction. In *Paysage sombre*, the depth of the blacks is pierced by a luminous pink area and a few barely sketched forms, creating a striking contrast between texture and color. Printed in an edition of only twenty-five copies, this print illustrates the artist’s graphic explorations in the early 1940s.
