Mario PRASSINOS (1916–1985) - Lot 337
Mario PRASSINOS (1916–1985) The Yellow Spring Bird, 1959 Wool tapestries Signed lower right Handwritten signature on the ribbon on the back, titled and aligned on 4 copies at the loom Suzanne Goubely Workshop in Aubusson, based on a gouache 143 x 192 cm Note: A leading figure in modern tapestry, Mario Prassinos (1916–1985) began collaborating with the Aubusson workshops in the 1950s, translating his pictorial language—characterized by stylized forms and rhythmic compositions—into wool. *The Yellow Bird of Spring*, woven in 1959 by the Suzanne Goubely workshop based on a gouache by the artist, displays a dynamic interplay of abstract forms in a palette of browns, ochres, and oranges. Limited to four copies, this tapestry illustrates the revival of French textile art in the 20th century.
