Macario VITALIS (1898–1989) - Lot 338
Macario VITALIS (1898–1989) Maternity, 1964 Oil on canvas Annotated and dated on the back: This painting is by Macario Vitalis 81 x 100 cm Note: A Filipino painter based in France, Macario Vitalis (1898–1989) developed a body of work at the intersection of figurative art and an almost Cubist construction of space. In *Maternity*, created in 1964, the figures are arranged in broad, colorful facets dominated by ochres, blues, and earth tones, while the mother and child form the luminous heart of the composition. This intimate scene illustrates the highly personal way in which Vitalis combines figurative subject matter, color, and the fragmentation of forms.
