Gilles FABRE (1933–2007) - Lot 348
Gilles FABRE (1933–2007) Paris, Quai d’Orléans, circa 1970 Oil on canvas Signed lower right 76 x 62 cm Accidents and Gaps Note: Gilles Fabre (1933–2007) was particularly drawn to depicting Paris, capturing its streets and quays in paintings that are both atmospheric and expressive. Painted around 1970, this view of the Quai d’Orléans on Île Saint-Louis stands out for its bird’s-eye perspective and its harmonious blend of ochre, gray, and bluish tones. The facades, bare trees, and streetlamps give structure to an almost silent composition, evoking a wintry Paris. The paint, applied in impasto and with scraped effects, brings the surfaces and the light to life.
