THE GODELUREAUX - Lot 28
THE GODELUREAUX Bernadette Lafont, Jean-Claude Brialy during the shooting (including a scene in front of the Brasserie Lipp, Paris) of Claude Chabrol's film, 1961. 9 photos, vintage silver prints, stamp (reference number) on back. Approx. 17.5 x 23.5 cm each. Note: Taken during the filming of Claude Chabrol's Godelureaux in 1961, these set photos plunge us into the elegant, cynical and profoundly modern world of the French New Wave. Starring Jean-Claude Brialy and Bernadette Lafont, the film depicts an idle, manipulative youth, moving between bourgeois apartments, Parisian cafés and sentimental wanderings. Scenes shot in Paris - notably in front of the Brasserie Lipp - reinforce the film's very contemporary place in the intellectual and social landscape of the Left Bank in the 1960s. With Les Godelureaux, Claude Chabrol continues his sharp observation of the bourgeoisie and its relationships of emotional domination, in a mise-en-scène that is both refined and deliberately cold. Jean-Claude Brialy is one of the emblematic figures of the generation of actors associated with the Nouvelle Vague, while Bernadette Lafont is already imposing her freedom of play and her modernity. These vintage silver prints bear witness to an essential moment in French cinema, where urban realism, psychological sophistication and a critical spirit come together in an instantly recognizable aesthetic.
