LES QUATRE CENTS COUPS - Lot 261
LES QUATRE CENTS COUPS Jean-Pierre Léaud... film by François Truffaut, 1959. Photo, silver print on vintage cartoline paper, stamped and annotated on back. 30 x 24.4 cm including blank edges. One edge manipulated (breaks in the paper) and some dust in the print (fine threads). Note: Photograph of Jean-Pierre Léaud in Les Quatre Cents Coups, François Truffaut's first feature film in 1959. A founding work of the Nouvelle Vague, the film revealed Jean-Pierre Léaud as Antoine Doinel, a character who became emblematic of French cinema and was followed by Truffaut for several decades. Awarded the Prix de la mise en scène at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959, Les Quatre Cents Coups remains one of the most important films in the history of modern cinema. Vintage silver photographs related to this major New Wave film are particularly sought-after by collectors of cinéma d'auteur and cinematographic memorabilia. The stamps and annotations on the back bear witness to its circulation in professional press and exhibition circuits.
