THEODORE KOSLOFF - Lot 365
THEODORE KOSLOFF Electricity... dancer and actor in Cecil B. DeMille's musical "Madam Satan", 1930. Photo, later (1960s) silver print on cartoline paper, muted back. 23.8 x 18.6 cm. Note: Photograph depicting Theodore Kosloff as "Electricity" in Madam Satan, a musical directed by Cecil B. DeMille in 1930. A spectacular production in the early days of Hollywood talking pictures, the film remains famous for its extravagant sets, musical sequences and Art Deco aesthetic, characteristic of the first great American musicals. A Russian-born dancer, choreographer and actor, Theodore Kosloff was one of the leading figures of Hollywood cinema in the 1920s and 1930s. The photographs associated with Madam Satan, a rare and atypical work by Cecil B. DeMille, are particularly sought-after by collectors of musical cinema and Hollywood memorabilia. Later silver print produced in the 1960s on cartoline paper.
