JEAN COCTEAU - Lot 38
JEAN COCTEAU Pottery… Exhibition at the Pont des Arts Gallery, curated by Lucie Weill, 1950s. Vintage poster (lithograph), printed by Mourlot - Paris. 65 x 49 cm. Poster shows signs of wear. Note: This poster announces an exhibition dedicated to Jean Cocteau’s pottery at the Pont des Arts Gallery, directed by Lucie Weill. A major figure in 20th-century French artistic life, Cocteau showcased his talent in numerous fields—poetry, drawing, theater, cinema, and the decorative arts. Beginning in the late 1940s, he produced a significant body of ceramic work, particularly in Vallauris, where he translated his world—populated by mythological figures, stylized profiles, and poetic motifs—into terracotta. Printed by the Mourlot workshops in Paris, this poster reflects the enthusiasm generated by this lesser-known yet essential facet of Cocteau’s work, at a time when ceramics were experiencing a remarkable artistic revival in France.
