JEAN-LOUIS FORAIN - Lot 41
JEAN-LOUIS FORAIN The Parisian Woman of the Century... “Arts de la Femme” Exhibition at the Palais de l’Industrie (7 dioramas by Poilpot), 1892. Vintage lithograph, designed by Jean-Louis Forain, Plate 186 from *The Masters of the Poster*, dry stamp in one corner. 40 x 29 cm including margins. Small tear along one edge. Note: Created by Jean-Louis Forain for the *Arts de la Femme* held at the Palais de l’Industrie in 1892, this lithograph is among the famous plates from *Maîtres de l’Affiche*, a publication that helped establish the illustrated poster as an art form in its own right at the end of the 19th century. Under the title *La Parisienne du Siècle*, Forain offers an elegant and witty portrayal of the modern woman, a central theme in his work and in Parisian society during the Belle Époque. As an illustrator, caricaturist, and keen observer of his time, he subtly captured the customs, fashions, and social transformations of the capital. This print stands as a remarkable testament to the golden age of French artistic posters and the rise of the graphic arts in the late 19th century.
