MAX ERNST - Lot 51
MAX ERNST Exhibition at the Galerie François Petit—Paris, 1969. Original poster (lithograph), printed by Mourlot—Paris. 82.5 x 61.5 cm (trimmed white borders). White borders show signs of handling. Note: This poster announces Max Ernst’s exhibition at the Galerie François Petit in Paris in 1969. A founding figure of Surrealism after participating in the Dada movement, Max Ernst left a profound mark on 20th-century art through his inventiveness and constant exploration of new artistic techniques, such as frottage, scraping, and decalcomania. His world, populated by metamorphic forms, fantastical creatures, and dreamlike landscapes, helped to bring about a lasting renewal of the language of modern art. Printed by the Mourlot workshops, this poster attests to the artist’s prominent position on the international scene toward the end of his career and to the sustained interest shown in him by galleries, collectors, and institutions.
