JOAN MIRO - Lot 74
JOAN MIRO The painter at the Clementi foundry, 1973. Photo by Clovis Prévost, later silver print (1980s) on card stock, annotated and signed by the photographer on the back. 30 x 23 cm, including white borders. Note: This photograph shows Joan Miró in the workshop of the bronze caster Clémenti in 1973, at a time when the artist was actively engaged in the field of monumental sculpture. Taken by Clovis Prévost, this portrait bears witness to the essential dialogue between the artist and the skilled craftsmen who contributed to the creation of his bronze works. A major figure in 20th-century art, Miró constantly explored new means of expression, transposing into sculpture the poetic and symbolic universe that characterizes his painting. This image thus offers a rare glimpse of the artist at work, at the heart of the creative process, and illustrates the importance of the collaboration between the artist and the foundry in the production of modern sculpture.
