RAYMOND MOISSET - Lot 91
RAYMOND MOISSET The abstract painter (School of Paris) in his studio, 1955. 2 photos by Gaston, vintage silver gelatin prints, stamped by the photographer and signed and annotated by the painter on both backs (from R. Moisset’s old archives). 18 x 24 cm each, including white borders. Dust on the prints. Note: These two photographs, taken in 1955, show Raymond Moisset in his studio, in the midst of his creative process. Associated with the École de Paris, Moisset developed an abstract body of work in which color, the construction of space, and the dynamics of form play an essential role. Portraits of artists in their studios are particularly valuable documents, revealing the working environment, works in progress, and the creative context. The significance of this set is enhanced by the artist’s handwritten annotations and signatures on the reverse of both prints, drawn from his own archives. Taken by the photographer Gaston, these photographs offer a direct glimpse into studio life and into the work of one of the leading figures of postwar French abstraction.
