JACQUES VILLON - Lot 120
JACQUES VILLON Painting or posing in his studio alongside his paintings, 1960. 3 photos, vintage color prints on tinted card stock. 18 x 12.5 cm each, including borders. Note: This set of three color photographs taken in 1960 shows Jacques Villon in his studio, sometimes at work, sometimes posing alongside his artworks. A major figure of the French avant-garde, a member of the Puteaux Group, and a key figure in Cubism, Villon developed a body of work throughout the 20th century based on an in-depth exploration of color, light, and the construction of space. At the time these photographs were taken, the artist had already achieved international recognition, cementing his role in the history of modern art. Studio photographs are particularly valuable records, offering insight into both the artist’s personality and the environment in which his works are created. This collection thus provides a rare glimpse, in color, of Jacques Villon in the intimacy of his artistic world.
