KATIA CHRISTINE - Lot 126
KATIA CHRISTINE Nude... (unidentified film), 1960s. Photo by Massimo Vergari, silver print on vintage card stock, stamped (including the photographer’s stamp) and annotated on the back. 29.7 x 20.8 cm. Edges show signs of handling, particularly a broken corner tip. Note: This photograph from the 1960s depicts Katia Christine in a nude scene from a film that is now unidentified. Taken by Italian photographer Massimo Vergari, it is part of the promotional material produced by the European film industry of the time, when set photographs and portraits of actresses played an essential role in promoting films to the press and the public. The aesthetic treatment of the image, characteristic of the 1960s, reflects the evolution of representations of the female body on screen against a backdrop of gradually liberalizing social mores. This vintage print thus serves as an interesting document on film photography and on the iconography of women during that decade.
