PAUL MORAND - Lot 160
PAUL MORAND Portrait, 1928. Photograph attributed to Berenice Abbott, vintage silver gelatin print mounted on cardboard (concealing the photographer’s credit/stamp?), annotated on the back of the cardboard. 22.8 x 16.8 cm (photo). Note: This portrait photograph taken in 1928 is attributed to Berenice Abbott, one of the leading figures in 20th-century photography. It depicts Paul Morand, a writer, diplomat, and traveler, whose literary work left a profound mark on the interwar period with its fast-paced, modern, and cosmopolitan style. As the author of stories, short stories, and novels inspired by his numerous travels around the world, Morand was one of the privileged observers of modernity in the 1920s. The attribution to Berenice Abbott is of particular interest: close to Parisian artistic and literary circles, the photographer produced numerous portraits of major figures in international intellectual life during this period. This vintage print thus serves as a remarkable testament to the encounter between two iconic figures of the creative and cultural scene of the interwar period.
