MOÏSE KISLING - Lot 171
MOÏSE KISLING "Seated Nude with a Turban," 1952. 2 photos, vintage silver gelatin prints; one depicts a reproduction of the painting, the other a possible photograph of the model (?), given that the painter sometimes used photographs as a source of inspiration; annotated, with paper residue on the back of one photo. Some signs of handling, in particular a crease along one edge and markings (for a publication) on one photograph (the model). 24 x 18 cm each. Note: This set of two vintage photographs is dedicated to the painting *Seated Nude with a Turban* painted by Moïse Kisling in 1952. A leading figure of the École de Paris, Kisling is particularly renowned for his portraits of women, his nudes, and his compositions with refined colors, which contributed to his international success. The first print reproduces the artwork itself, while the second appears to depict the model who served as the inspiration for its creation. This set holds particular documentary value, as Kisling frequently used photography as a working tool and source of inspiration in the development of his compositions. Taken together, these two images offer a rare glimpse into the artist’s creative process, potentially establishing a connection between the model and the finished work. They thus constitute a valuable record of the working methods of a major painter of the 20th-century Parisian art scene.
